May 16th, 2008 Remember In November
I started this months ago and update it from time to time. Please vote in November whatever your stand. You know if everyone who could vote did vote we might really change things instead of allowing the country to be run by the less than 54% who do vote. If you think we should continue in Iraq, vote; if you think we should withdraw, vote; let your voice be heard. REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER UPDATE: As of 05/14/2008, 4077 members of the U.S. Military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war. Latest count, see: http://www.icasualties.org/oif/BY_DOD.aspx UPDATE: As of Monday, March 31, 2008, at least 4,011 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. ORIGINAL POST Yesterday while reading through the blogs I came across one titled "Approaching an Unwanted Milestone" by SM. In it he stated he had a counter on his profile and that our soldiers that have been taken from us now numbered 3996 with the approaching milestone of 4000 ...we may have already today have reached this number. Tonight while going through my groups I came across a video contributed by Susan. This video coupled with SM's death tally deeply affected me and I simply wish to share....no matter how you feel about the right or the wrong of it these men and women that have died are our brothers, fathers, sisters, daughters, mothers, cousins, friends... they belong to all of us. Please in November no matter what your position please exercise your right to vote...in the end that is what they have died for. Please if you are not registered, register; and when it is time, please vote. I would hate to think he risked his life to help others and us not appreciate all the young men and women who have died doing the very thing he did. I am one of the lucky mothers, my son came home in one piece, without being stuffed in a body bag or his personal items mailed to me in a plain manila envelope, or a flag drapped over his coffin. I had a brother in a similar war with similar feelings , he sat in a POW camp in vietnam, he came home and folks booed him and threw stuff at him because he wore a US military uniform, He fought for the very same things my son fought for yet was spit upon. We need to support our military even if we don't agree with the politics. We need to vote, even if we don't agree with the politics, because if we don't then we will have a government who will tell us what to do when to do it and we won't have a choice. I like what you said and I think it needs to be posted in all your groups..get out and VOTE if you don't someone elses's voice will make your rules. I'm honored that you would be inspired by my blog to put your blog and Robert Cray video together. I was taken back that the 4000 killed milestone was reached the very next day after I wrote my blog. As I said in my blog, it's an unwanted milestone, but still one that needs to be remembered and honored. I agree with you that voting is one of the best ways we can do this. It's one of the key freedoms these patriots have fought and died for. The Robert Cray video you posted is very moving. I hope more members take the time to view it. I do not fault the individual for the sins of our leaders. Bush is the one who should be tried for the murder of the 4000+ that have died. He should have to go to each family and beg their forgiveness. He should have to serve 4000+ life sentences for the lives lost and the families disrupted. I never blame the soldier, I blame the leaders and their financial backers. No one should ever blame the soldier. Remove comment
