Enough
We had a pact, they and I---run, jump, be loud, enjoy.
Wherever we were that was the rule--feel free, love life, get giddy with it
But when needing the quiet, the serious, the dialing it down
There was just one little word that when said reigned the exuberance in.
Enough.
I could say it loudly to the room, I could whisper it in a ear
I could just have the look of it on my face
The results were always the same. There would be quiet, exuberance reigned in.
Enough
Funny that is all that it took. These little boys of mine so full of life, laughter,
Just wiggly with it, the joy of it.
It could not have been the pact, the covenant, the agreement
that when this word just whispered or said aloud to a room
Could bring about such result--could it? I think not.
It had to be the love behind it, in it, on it, engulfing it.
Enough.
